Privacy Policy
What data foxling receives, why it needs it, and how to have it deleted.
About the service
foxling is a personal assistant that answers in a Telegram chat and on the website https://foxling.rootfox.cc. It understands requests written in ordinary words and carries them out: it keeps a calendar through Google, sets reminders, remembers what it was asked to keep, and looks things up on the open web.
What data is processed
From Telegram: the chat's identifier, its username if it has one, the text of the messages, the client's language and the timestamps — without these the bot cannot answer in that chat or follow the conversation.
From the Google account — only after signing in with Google: the email address, name, preferred language, time zone, and the calendar data the granted access can see. Only identity, calendar reading and event writing are requested (openid, email, profile, calendar.readonly, calendar.events). Mail, contacts and files are never requested.
What was asked to be remembered, and the reminders that were set — these belong to the chat rather than to the account.
When the site's public pages are opened — the front page, the sign-in page, the policy and the terms — Google Analytics 4 records the view: the page's address, where the visitor came from, the language and the kind of device — and sets the _ga and _ga_CRWD7LYYZN cookies (up to two years). The pages behind a session, that is the account's own pages, carry no tag, and no view from them is reported anywhere.
Why
To answer in the chat; to read and change the calendar when asked; to remind and send the schedules that were asked for; to remember what was left to remember; and to look things up on the web when asked.
Where the data is kept
In foxling's own database on the server that runs the service. The state lives there; the job-delivery queue holds no data of its own.
Who the data is shared with
Google — to read and change the calendar, through the OAuth access that was granted.
Telegram — to receive and send messages: it is the chat platform.
The language-model provider — to understand a request and phrase the answer: the text of the conversation is passed to it for processing.
A search engine and a page-rendering engine — when something is looked up on the web.
Google Analytics — to count views of the public pages: the page's address and technical details about the browser are passed to Google and handled under its policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). The advertising features of the measurement are not enabled, and the data is not sold or passed on for advertising.
How long the data is kept
The conversation, what was asked to be remembered, and the reminders are kept for as long as they are needed to answer. Past calendar events are deleted from the copy shortly after they end. Requests that no ability can serve are kept for up to 90 days and are shown to nobody.
Choices and rights
The chat can be unlinked from the account on https://foxling.rootfox.cc/settings — the bot then stops seeing the account.
Google access can be revoked in the Google account settings — foxling then stops reading the calendar.
The data is deleted on request to foxling@rootfox.cc.
The language and time zone can be chosen on the page https://foxling.rootfox.cc/settings.
Analytics can be refused: a blocker or the browser's own cookie settings, or Google's own add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). Refusing does not stop anyone from using the service.
Children
The service is not intended for children under 13, and their data is not knowingly collected.
Changes
This policy may be updated. The current version is always available at https://foxling.rootfox.cc/privacy, and the effective date is stated at the top of the page.
